Aruba is located 17 miles north of Venezuela, in the southern Caribbean Sea southeast of the Virgin Islands (view Aruba map). Aruba is one of the "ABC Islands" and is within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Aruba was part of the Netherlands Antilles until 1986, when it became its own country within the Kingdom. Aruba's weather consists of an arid climate, unlike much of the Caribbean region, which helps tourism and allows visitors to the island to reliably expect warm sunny weather. Aruba is 75 square miles and lies outside the hurricane belt.
